With all of the hate for Windows Vista, what if people used Vista but didn’t know it was Vista…would they still hate it?

The answer? No.

Participants of the focus groups were all Windows XP users and they were told that they would be testing out a new operating system called “Mojave”. More than 90 percent of the participants gave positive feedback on their experience with “Mojave”, with one user exclaiming “oh wow” while using it.

When each of the groups were finished they were told that they had been using Windows Vista all along, to which they replied “Vista sucks”. No, not really. =)

Something this illustrates is the public perception problem Vista has and while Microsoft has an uphill climb to change that perception, at least this research shows that it’s possible.

As hard as it was for many to believe, that’s what they claimed and now they’ve released a video to prove it.

Keep in mind that the Mojave lovers in the video aren’t your typical geek, some with years of Windows hate lodged firmly in their mind. They’re normal computer users that hated Vista because everyone else did.

Pretty interesting. Mangwana and Hove reportedly reassured the business leaders that any takeover of companies would be carried out in an orderly manner.

CZI President Callisto Jokonya confirmed the meeting took place.

“We were seeking clarification and Mangwana told us that in no uncertain terms that the implementation of the takeover will be done professionally. As CZI we are not opposed to indigenisation,” Jokonya said.

Zimbabwe’s Parliament recently passed a controversial law which compels all foreign owned enterprises operating in the country to surrender more than half their shares to local citizens in a programme aimed at empowering the country’s marginalised citizens.

President Mugabe recently renewed threats to seize the foreign owned companies, particularly British owned ones after London refused to recognise his victory in last month’s single candidate presidential election which he won after Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) leader Morgan Tsvangirai pulled out citing political violence against his sympathisers.

Meanwhile, the business leaders hailed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Mugabe, MDC leader Morgan Tsvangirai and Arthur Mutambara, the leader of a breakaway faction of the MDC. They said such negotiations would help end the country’s agonising economic crisis.

“This is indeed a historic event which should augur well for our nation and everyone who has the best interests of Zimbabwe at heart applauds this calibre of statesmanship,” said Jokonya.

[Source]

New York subway romance
CANBERRA (Reuters) - A modern-day love story of a man spotting the girl of his dreams across a New York subway train and tracking her down over the Internet has failed to have a fairytale ending with the relationship over.

For Web designer Patrick Moberg, then 21, from Brooklyn, it was love at first sight when he spotted a woman on a Manhattan train last November. But he lost her in the crowd so he set up a website with a sketch to find her — www.nygirlofmydreams.com.

Unbelievably in a city of 8 million people, it only took Moberg 48 hours to track down the woman, with his phone ringing non-stop and email box overflowing as usually cynical New Yorkers took sympathy on the subway Romeo and joined his hunt.

The mysterious brunette was named as Camille Hayton, from Melbourne, Australia, who was working as an intern at the magazine BlackBook and also lived in Brooklyn. One of her friends spotted the sketched picture on the Web site and recognized her.

But after finding each other, appearing on TV and getting international press, the couple took their romance out of the public eye, with Moberg closing down the Web site and with both refusing to making any more comments — until now.

Hayton told Australian newspaper The Sunday Telegraph that she dated Moberg for about two months but it just didn’t work out.

“I say we dated for a while but now we’re just friends,” Hayton, now 23, told the newspaper. “It’s really nice that people embraced the story. It is part of my life now.”

Hayton said she is still recognized about three times a week on the streets of Manhattan as “that girl”‘ and the question is always the same: “So what happened?”

“I think the situation was so intense that it bonded us,” she said, adding it “bonded us in a way that you could mistake, I guess, for being more romantic than it was. I don’t know. But I wanted to give it a go so I didn’t wonder what if, what if?”

Hayton told The Sunday Telegraph that she is enjoying single life in New York, keeping busy with acting classes, working in two vintage clothing stores and as a waitress.

Last week she had a small role as a waitress in the long-running daytime soap “As The World Turns” and last year she was an extra in a “blink and you’d miss it” scene in the hit movie “Sex And The City.”

“I just can’t believe it happened. The title alone is enough to conjure up nightmares of how demonic possession ruins a pretty complexion and what split-pea soup looks like as projectile vomit. But these visceral images are from the movie; does its source material, the 1971 book by William Peter Blatty, pack the same kind of punch?

For those of you hoping for those lurid scenes and shocking moments that made the movie infamous, fear not. It’s all there.

The movie remained very faithful to the book; the plotlines match up point for point. Famous actress Chris MacNeil has a sweet young daughter named Regan who inexplicably undergoes a series of changes, each more devastating and disturbing than the last. As both psychiatric and physical examinations fail to reveal the cause for Regan’s bizarre and terrifying symptoms, her mother comes to believe she may be possessed, and clutches to a last hope of performing an exorcism to get her daughter back.

It’s a disturbing novel, no doubt about it. Regardless of whether you have or haven’t faith, there’s something intrinsically disturbing reading about a twelve-year-old masturbating with a crucifix. And we won’t even go into what she does to her mother in that scene. If you want something more than shocks and perversions that make you wince and shudder, though, you won’t get much.

Sure, you could drag out some kind of message about the power of hope and faith overpowering even the filthiest demon, but let’s be realistic. The main pull of The Exorcist is its notoriety for being horrific and profane, and it delivers.

The characters are well-defined down to their dialogue patterns and mannerisms, and their stunned, frightened reactions to the grotesque experiences are what drive the horror home. The prose is sometimes clumsy (several similes just made me go “huh?”), but it’s a fast-paced read.

Rating: B+. A great horror novel, but it doesn’t transcend its genre.

Not accepting credit cards

Andorra Bahrain Bosnia Herzegovina Bulgaria Croatia Cyprus Czech Republic Egypt Estonia Gibraltar Hungary Iceland India Israel Jordan Kuwait Latvia Lebanon Liechtenstein Lithuania Malta & Gozo Monaco Montenegro Morocco Oman Poland Qatar Romania Russia San Marino Saudi Arabia Serbia Slovakia Slovenia South Africa Turkey Ukraine United Arab Emirates Vatican:

If you are from any of the above countries then you will not be able to use your credit card to purchase Metal Gear Online’s gene expansion. There is currently no word on exactly why Konami is not accepting credit cards from these countries. I certainly hope that Konami hears all of their fans comments. It is not fair to be able to purchase a game and then not be able to purchase content that goes with the game. If you dig tunes, you know there are quite a lot of free music sites — some legit and some not. Here are three that fall in the legit category, one of which is sure to please.

Jango: There’s no sign up necessary to start enjoying Jango. Simply type in an artist or genre from the front page and the service builds a “station” for you in seconds, delivering streaming music that attempt to match your tastes.

Once a song starts, you’re presented with several options. Three rankings, based on “smilies,” determine how often a given song might play. A list of links to other user-built stations that include the current song or artist are listed. If you enjoy the current artist, you can click any of the other songs that Jango has by that artist. You can also check out lyrics, buy a song, or share a song (sign-up required for this feature) via IM or email from the player.

Jango also has a social network, allowing you to add friends. The stations — and you can build as many as you care to — are very customizable, letting you can add or remove any artist. Finally, you can create a badge called a “Jango Jukebox” to embed on your website or blog. Jango is ad-supported, and the ads are … ah … plentiful.

Pandora: Email and profile registration is required for this free streaming music service. Create stations on the fly by typing in a song or musician. Here’s the cool part: the station’s playlist is based as much on what the song or artist typically sounds like, rather than genre. There are also a number of pre-built genre stations that go pretty deep, giving you well over a hundred choices.

Pandora refines your stations based on a your ratings; you can give songs using a “thumbs up” or “down.” There’s also a button to let you bookmark a song, buy it, or add a station based on the current song or artist. Another option lets you discover some cool facts about the music you’re hearing, and why. There are players available for your mobile phone (Sprint, AT&T and iPhone)k and you can share songs/stations with friends via email or the Pandora community. Pandora is also ad-supported.

Stumbleaudio: This is the indie music cousin of the online radio world, and a new player in this space. There is no sign-in required to get started. Stumbleaudio’s library contains 2 million songs by 120,000 artists. At present, you can only listen to stations based on genre, though an “I like” search box lets you search for music similar to an artist you — wait for it — like.

A “stumble” button lets you shuffle to another album, otherwise you listen to the entire album by the current artist. Skipping tracks is allowed. A thumbs up/down rating system lets you control whether a song plays again during a future listening session.

The “share” button copies the current website address to the clipboard and you can paste from there into email, chat, or wherever you please. You can also purchase music via Stumbleaudio; options include buying the current track or the entire album. There are no ads on Stumbleaudio currently.

We know this is just the tip of the free music iceberg, but for the newcomer, these three services are great places to start.

iPhone 3G explained

Have you seen those pictures where they take apart the iPhone to show you what it looks like on the inside? Pretty cool. I f'ed over the protective cover for it, so I'm going to have to look into alternatives.

Anyway, I got Shazam (Midomi sux), which is an Application I've been waiting for... Basically you're sitting in a restaurant, in your car with the radio on, etc... You simply hit a button on the phone, and let it work it's magic. 10 seconds later, based on the what the App just picked up, the song that's playing around you is displayed on the screen... Works like a charm so far. Ah technology.

The iPhone just wouldn't be complete without the lightsaber App. It has its moments. Ha.
